Everything You Need to Know About Tooth Extractions

August 28, 2023

Are you visiting your dentist in Cleveland, TN, for a tooth extraction? Here's everything you need to know about tooth extractions.

Did you know that about 90% of Americans experience tooth decay?

Why is this relevant? Because sometimes, this eventually leads to tooth removal.

If you're reading this article, you're likely already at that point. What do you need to know about tooth extractions?

Read on for a guide that breaks it down.

Wisdom Teeth

One of the biggest reasons why someone ends up getting a tooth removed is because it is a wisdom tooth. For some people, wisdom teeth fail to grow properly inside their mouths.

This isn't an uncommon problem. About 85% of adults end up having to get their wisdom teeth removed because of this.

The main reason why dentists may recommend these teeth to be removed is because there is simply no room for them. If wisdom teeth fail to grow properly, they tend to cause overcrowding. This comes up with young adults more often than not and tends to get addressed quickly.

If you don't take care of this immediately, it can start to impact your neighboring teeth. It can also affect your gums and it can lead to a lot of pain and discomfort

Removing these wisdom teeth can help eliminate this pain and prevent further problems with your teeth down the road.

Decay

As mentioned above, tooth decay tends to be a big reason why teeth end up needing to be removed. It could happen to the point that the tooth is no longer salvageable. A lot of things can lead to this, but the main thing is ignoring your dental health.

When tooth decay happens, you also open yourself up to a lot of oral diseases. If you have these oral diseases, it can impact neighboring teeth and put them at risk. Removing the one bad tooth can allow you to isolate the damage.

Cracked Teeth

Finally, you may have cracked one of your teeth in an accident. Or, you may have tried to eat something too hard for your teeth.

If a tooth becomes severely cracked, it may result in permanent damage. It can cause other teeth to become misaligned, and there may simply be too much pain for you to bear.

Removing it allows you to take care of that pain and even salvage your appearance with a dental implant. Mentally, this also can help you gain more confidence in your appearance and eliminate concerns about that cracked tooth down the road.

Dr. Ta grew up in a small college town called Davis in California. He spent a lot of this youth volunteering in the community. He wrestled in high school and raised pigs in the FFA. His love for the micro world led him to pursue a bachelor's in microbiology and later work for a biotech company researching diatoms as an alternative energy source. After two years, Dr. Ta's desire to make an impact and serve the community inspired a career change and move to Cleveland, OH where he earned his Doctorate degree. His love for education did not stop there; he pursued additional training in General Practice Residency gaining skills in specialty fields such as oral surgery, endodontistry, implantology, and pediatric dentistry.
